About

I’m Lauren, a graphic designer from Buffalo, NY with 10 years of experience in print design and production. I design print collateral and marketing material such as brochures, rack cards, posters, flyers, banners, etc. Currently, I work for a commercial printer where I design, typeset and preflight files.

My Design Philosophy

I believe with every turn of a page there is an opportunity to delight and surprise the viewer.

I’ve always thought of graphic design as printed material — posters, flyers, newsletters, packaging, booklets, etc. I believe with every turn of a page there is an opportunity to delight and surprise the viewer. This belief has grown into a passion for creating engaging experiences and has motivated me through a decade-long career in the commercial printing industry.

Career Journey

I earned my Bachelor’s in Studio Art from the University at Buffalo, concentrating in Visual Communication and Design. I then began operating print and finishing equipment for a commercial printer, gradually working my way up through the ranks. I became involved in every step of production, from creating designs to shipping the final product as I advanced to Typesetter and then Graphic Designer.

Expertise & Skills

Specializing in print design with a focus on clean file building, I’ve developed expertise in creating layouts that produce high-quality prints while streamlining production. Through a wide range of projects, I’ve mastered various techniques including digital-cutting, spot UV, and foil stamping. I take pride in my ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment with plenty of troubleshooting and problem-solving to meet tight deadlines.

Industry Experience

My career in design has been a rewarding experience. In my current role, I’ve designed for a wide range of industries, from healthcare and community non-profits to manufacturing and restaurants. It has been an exciting opportunity to create pieces for marketing teams at DENT Neurologic Institute, Northland Workforce Training Center, Donald Ross Sportswear, and many small local businesses.

Marketing & Digital Design

My journey has also sparked an interest in marketing. Working for various marketing teams has given me valuable insights into the relationship between graphic design, marketing strategy, and audience engagement. I have helped small businesses grow their brands by incorporating marketing principles into my designs. I am currently expanding my skills in marketing and digital design, earning certificates from the California Institute of the Arts, the University of Michigan, and HubSpot Academy.

Personal Interests

When I’m not working, I’m at home with my husband and our two young sons. I enjoy drawing, painting, and reading mythology. I also like planning household projects, watching the Buffalo Bills, and playing sports with my kids in the summer. Additionally, I volunteer with Aurora Players, a local theater in East Aurora, NY, where I design playbills and other graphics.
